Appleby, William (b. ABT. 12 NOV 1862, d. AFT. 1936)

Note: William Appleby was Christened on the 12 November 1862 at Weaverthorpe.
Parents listed as Allison and Hannah Appleby.
William's sister Ellen is the great grandmother of DeEtta Powell.

William homesteaded around Kimball, South Dakota.
On the 1881 Census for UK William was living on the farm of his employ er in Thornton le Dale.
After his wife's death in 1908, in Kimball, South Dakota, he left for Cana da. DeEtta Powel has picture of Elizabeth's grave stone. She would have be en about 47 years old when she died.
William could have remarried and had a daughter, don't know was it in Sou th Dakota or Canada.

DeEtta has papers showing he expatriated himself by having been naturaliz ed as a British subject in Canada on September 8, 1936 at the a ge of 74 or there about. Wanted to die an Englishman, I guess.

William applied for American Naturalization 30 October 1888. He stat ed he came to the United States in May of 1886 landing in the port of Chic ago (Great Lakes, perhaps). He became a citizen 13 June 1899.
Chicago had no entry port for ships from England. May have gone to Cana da first then onto Chicago.
Occupation Farmer. Lived at Lyonville, South Dakota, USA.

William Appleby is not related to the other Appleby's in this family tr ee as they came from Eryholme and Thornaby-on-Tees in North Yorkshire. Th is is a second independant Appleby branch is through marriage. Amazing b ut true.
